What Utah Companies Are Selling For, by Industry

Utah's economy is not evenly attractive to acquirers. Some industries here draw consistent out-of-state buyer interest; others trade almost entirely to local buyers. Knowing which you are in changes how a sale should be run.

What follows is qualitative rather than a price list. Every company is valued on its own normalized earnings and its own risk profile.

Home services and construction trades

The most active acquisition category in Utah right now, and it follows directly from growth along the Wasatch Front. HVAC, plumbing, electrical, roofing, landscaping and remodeling have all drawn private equity consolidators and regional strategics.

What earns a premium here: maintenance agreements and recurring service revenue, a replacement-heavy mix rather than repair-only, tenured licensed technicians, commercial contracts alongside residential, and documented pricing and dispatch systems. What suppresses it: owner-sold work, licensing held personally rather than by the entity, and job costing you cannot produce.

Healthcare services and medical billing

Utah has real density here, and the buyer pool is sophisticated: strategic acquirers rolling up regional operations, private equity healthcare platforms, and larger RCM firms buying client bases.

Contract quality drives value more than size. Percentage-of-collections agreements with multi-year terms are the core asset. Client concentration is the dominant risk, and compliance documentation is not optional in diligence.

Commercial and facilities services

Janitorial, landscaping, facilities maintenance and building services. Utah's commercial development has supported steady demand. Multi-year contracts with defined scopes and escalation clauses are the single largest value driver; thirty-day cancellable terms mean a buyer is purchasing goodwill rather than contracted revenue.

Manufacturing and industrials

Utah manufacturers command the strongest multiples in the lower middle market when they have defensible customer relationships, certifications competitors would need years to earn, and well-maintained equipment with remaining capacity.

Customer concentration is common here and heavily penalized. An equipment appraisal before going to market frequently surfaces value the balance sheet has depreciated away.

Technology and Silicon Slopes

Utah's technology corridor has produced a deep bench of companies and a buyer pool that includes strategic acquirers and growth equity. Recurring revenue, retention, and gross margin structure drive value far more than headcount or raw revenue.

Note that software and SaaS businesses are frequently valued on revenue multiples rather than earnings multiples, which is a different exercise than everything else on this page.

Outdoor, consumer and e-commerce

Utah has a real outdoor products and consumer brand presence. Value here turns on owned audience and organic demand rather than paid acquisition, channel diversification, supplier stability, and inventory accounting that can survive diligence.

What is consistent across all of them

Earnings quality, customer concentration, owner dependence, recurring revenue and growth. Industry sets the range; those five determine where you land inside it.
